I Don’t Know How to Feel about LeGarrette Blount’s Weight Clause

Weight clauses are bullshit.

These NFL players make boatloads of money just to lose like ten pounds, which is the task for LaGarrette Blount, who has to lose the weight in order to receive $50,000 from the Eagles.

$50,000 for a professional athlete to lose ten pounds.

How sickening is that?

I’d definitely rather not hear about what these guys make but this also leaves me conflicted. On one hand, it’s like respect. Just don’t be a fatass for a couple of weeks, workout a little bit and boom here’s a check for 50 grand.

ON THE OTHER HAND, DON’T BE A FATASS IN THE FIRST PLACE AND FORCE THE TEAM TO GIVE YOU 50 GRAND JUST TO GET IN SHAPE.

I don’t know, I just think it’s gross that they have to give the guy $50,000 to get in shape and it’s not like he won’t. Blount was coming off of a grueling Super Bowl season with the Pats. I’m sure he wanted to take a little time off. Now that football’s back and Blount is working out consistently, I’m sure he’ll have no problem losing the weight.

I also wonder if this is the Eagles trying to keep Blount in check. Usually when guys leave Super Bowl teams their play suffers because they’re leaving that Super Bowl team culture and starting over/chasing a paycheck. Blount is signed to a 1 year deal so I don’t totally see that being the case. If he wants another contract in the NFL, he better ball out this season.

Either way, $50,000 is egregious for dropping a few pounds.

People forget that a lot of normal humans won’t make that in a year.
