Doug, Please Shut Up

By: Aaron Black (@aaronblack25)

It’s not too often in mid-July a person can already be upset with their football, unless you’re a Cowboys fan…way to go Zeke, have a lovely suspension. But, Doug Pederson has somehow made that possible. Scrolling through my Twitter feed and I see “Doug Pederson says Eagles have more talent than the ’96-‘97 Packers.”

Here’s the quote for those who missed it.

You’re capable. … I look back at my time in Green Bay as a player when we were making those playoff runs and those Super Bowl runs there, and do we have as much talent on this team than we did then? We probably have more talent, right?” Pederson said, via ESPN.com. “But we also had a lot of talent in [2011] here and where did that get us? So there’s got to be a combination of blending all this talent with the coaching staff, with my ideas and philosophy, to bring that all together, put the egos aside, put pride aside, and just go focus on winning this game that we have in front of us. I’m a big believer [that] if you do that, then you look back at the end of the season and you’re probably going to be where you want to be, and that’s playing in the postseason.”

My immediate reaction after reading that was a flashback to this disaster:

Doug has made some head scratching comments since becoming our coach, and anyone who has ever heard/seen one of his press conferences knows they go something like this:

Yes, on paper, this roster is definitely improved from last years but Jesus Christ, Doug. Wentz had some ups and downs his rookie year and there’s always that little fear a sophomore slump is coming. I am not saying Wentz will have one, but that’s always in the back of your head. We upgraded at running back with LeGarrette Blount, but he was also benched in the Superbowl last year due his lack of pass catching ability and he is coming off a grueling 300 carry season. Alshon Jeffery is one PED charge from being a certified disaster, a rookie corner is going to start, and our right tackle is in the same boat as Jeffery. There’s more to worry about, but it is July and I will not get fully heated until at least mid August after reading training camp reports. Is this me being the ever so pessimistic Philly sports fan by picking out all the flaws and not even thinking about the huge upsides of our new additions? Damn right it is. But the amount of pain this franchise has caused us will always make us cautiously optimistic. The thought of this team being compared to a team that one SUPERBOWLS, yes multiple Super bowls, is just so damn stupid. Way to throw that pressure now on yourself Doug going into your second year, leave the “team to beat” level comments to Jimmy Rollins

Keep Doug far away from a microphone, press conferences, any sort of media outlet, or possibly the outdoors for at least 3 months.

From all of us in Philly we say, DOUG SHUT THE F*** UP!
