Some Thoughts On Peter King Being Wrong

Yeah, I guess I tipped my hand a little regarding my opinion on Peter King’s comments with that title! For those of you who have not yet seen it, here is what Peter King had to say about Eagles fans booing at halftime:

Now, I don’t want to play both sides of the fence here, but I believe Eagles fans are too often inherently negative. We give up too easily and expect the worst. Let the guys play 60 minutes before you chalk the game up as a failure. If after 60 minutes, it’s not a successful outcome, then go crazy. But, let the events play out first.

Even so, I don’t take issue with the fans booing last night. I didn’t stand up on that stage on the Art Museum steps in front of “700,000” people and call winning championships, “the new norm”. And if you’re reading this, it wasn’t you either. That was Doug, and that was Howie. Instead of giving us a product capable of living up to “the new norm”, they have delivered nothing but mediocrity. Watching the Eagles has been like ordering something online from China, only to have it delivered and realize it looks nothing like what you ordered. You are bound to be pissed off.

I never really expect an outsider to get it, even though any football fan should. We deserve better. I do not say that pretentiously because I know in a league proud of its parity, winning the Super Bowl every year is not realistic. Even the odds of repeating this year were (and still are) tough. I didn’t expect it to happen. But when the fans pay all this money to root for and practically worship a team, it’s unfair to watch performances like we have seen at Lincoln Financial Field this year. The past two performances by the Eagles at home are: blowing a 17 point lead in the span of a quarter AND coming out flat after a bye week in a crucial divisional match-up. I think it would reflect more poorly on the fans of this franchise if they sat idly by and supported performances like that instead of booing and demanding more from this team. I think most fans around the league would agree, just not Peter King.

One last thought on the fallout from last night’s demoralizing loss and the comments from King: The term “bush league” is so corny! I never trust a guy who uses that phrase to have a correct take on something. The term “bush league” is something used for when someone flips a bat in baseball, because its a term for old white guys without an ounce of swagger. That’s Peter King. Oh, and it’s 2018 now, the term “GOAT” is a good thing. Pay attention to the internet, you moron.
