Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles Not Playing Against the Colts Means Nerds Are on the Hot Seat

The Eagles didn’t even mess around with a “game time decision” tag this week as they flat out told the world Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles will NOT play. In steps the heroes we both deserve and need…

These two up and comers getting a heavy workload in Carson’s return means one thing…nerds are on an absolute hot seat. You know who had the cruelest death since Cecil the Lion got killed by that white dentist? The eye test. That’s right, gone are the days where we watched a guy and said “wow, he’s good at football”. Now, we completely ignore actual game tape and go straight to intangibles and measurements. What’s their 40 time? What’s their 3 cone drill? What’s their wingspan? Are you high right now? Do you ever get nervous? (If you don’t get that, you are not the target demographic we are trying to reach lemme tell ya).

You know what’s absolutely insane? Josh Adams and Corey Clement being studs in college and neither of them getting drafted. Clement had 3,000 rushing yards at Wisconsin despite being used sparingly for the first few years behind two other NFL running backs. Then he gets thrown to the wayside….

Like, how did we get to the point where Deshaun Watson was the best player on the best team and beat the best defense in college football and scouts and analysts said to themselves, “you know who’s the best quarterback on the board? Mitchell Trubisky”. Now there’s good college players who don’t pan out. Jimmer Fredette tore it up in college but it was not hard to tell that pulling up from miles behind the three point line was not a sustainable model for success.

Moral of the story: advanced metrics are for nerds. The eye test is for smart people.
