Sixers Make Questionable Decision For Newest GM

We interrupt the Eagles wide receiver watch to bring you the Sixers Sixering:

I want to sit here and assume the Sixers as an organization have done substantial homework before coming to this decision. I want to confidently believe that essentially promoting Elton Brand from the GM of the G League team to GM of the actual team was THE move. But this is the Sixers, where the front office is the epitome of dysfunction. This is the same team who was peer pressured into forcing out the decision maker who laid the groundwork for a roster with two, if not three, franchise players. Then, was pressured once more into hiring a replacement based on nepotism. Trust they made the right decision because Brand made a “strong impression” on THIS front office? That trust was obliterated about 76 medical updates ago.

Maybe it’s the stigma I have about former players as general managers that makes me uneasy about this move. I have no analytics to back up my opinion (that’s how it’s done these days in case you stopped watching ESPN) but being a good NBA player does not translate into being a good NBA front office executive. Now is a good time to get my take out there that Magic Johnson did nothing and the Lakers fell ass backwards into signing Lebron! So, will Brand being analytically sound (he has a good supporting cast to assist in that), or reject a trade offer of multiple first round picks so he can draft Frank Kaminsky like MJ did?

What I will say about Elton Brand is despite questioning whether he was qualified for the job, he is still somehow a trillion times more qualified than Bryan Colangelo. I haven’t been more confident in a Philly sports figure NOT leading us to the promise land since Sam Bradford was quarterbacking the Eagles. Sam Bradford’s sleeves and Bryan Colangelo’s collars give me equal distaste. With Brand, I at the very least have the confidence he can sit in a room with free agents and convince them Philadelphia is a legitimate option. Meanwhile, Brett Brown still has my vow of confidence in evaluating draft prospects and honestly, he has my vow of confidence in life itself. He is my second dad.

So, we will see if this works out. It is really hard to screw up two generational talents as your foundation so I pray the Sixers don’t do it. When we march down Broad Street in late June of 2020 celebrating a title, I’ll have both middle fingers up, a dog mask on and a retro Duke Elton Brand Jersey. No fan base deserves that moment more than us.
