*whispers* The Phillies Have the Second Best Record in the National League

Anytime the Phillies play the Cardinals I have nightmarish flashbacks to the 2011 NLDS. Halladay working out of the jam of all jams in the first inning only to catch the loss, Ryan Howard going down during the final out, Cliff Lee blowing the lead, Raul Ibanez home run that was blown back into the stadiums by the Gods that hate Philly sports…it was the worst. So, any win against the Cardinals helps, including last nights 6-2 victory in Busch Stadium. It was another night that signified a new era of Phillies baseball. The #Kaplera may need 4 relief pitchers to get through 2 innings, but things are going swimmingly.

With the Braves getting rained out in Chicago, the Phils moved to a .5 game out of first place in the NL East. We’re already a quarter of the way through the season; this isn’t a fluke, this is sustained success. I have way more confidence in that statement with performances like Vinny Velasquez’ tonight. I probably invested in more real estate on Vince Velasquez Island than Markelle Fultz Island (which is really saying something) so I’m happy to see Vinny Velo is gaining a lot of command and confidence on the mound. His past few starts coupled with Nick Pivetta’s 7 strong innings yesterday is probably the best stuff yet from these guys. This starting rotation is absolutely BALLING right now.

Now would also be a good time to officially announce that the Life of a Philly Fan page is very #PrOdubel. With his walk in the fourth inning, Herrera has now reached base in 43 straight games. His double down the line later in the game extended the Phils lead to 4-0, giving us some extra insurance, which is what contending teams do. I don’t think the Odubel haters will be thrilled with the fact that we’ve reached this point:

I am in a serious Sixers withdrawal. 7pm rolls around, and I am just a lost puppy dog. With basketball done for the year and THIS being the only thing going on with the Eagles, I’m all in on spending my summer at CBP.
