Jolly Green Giant, Sam Morin, Just Can’t Catch A Break

Just when you thought Flyers defenseman prospect, Sam Morin, was turning a corner and getting away from the injury bug. The injury bug struck again.

During the Phantoms historic 5 OT win against the Charlotte Checkers, Morin left the period in the 1st period with an apparent leg injury. After being flown home the next day to Philadelphia, the Flyers doctors examined Morin in more detail and the news was not good.

Morin was diagnosed with a knee injury that would require surgery according to Phantoms Head Coach Scott Gordon…

“He’ll have the surgery once the swelling goes down in his knee.”

This is the final straw in Morin’s injury plagued season. After missing 3 months prior to an expected groin injury, Morin played in the first 3 games of the Phantoms matchup with the Charlotte Checkers before leaving to injury.

You have to feel for this kid. But, even with the injury plagued year, Morin never lost his upbeat attitude and remained positive all season long.

“This made me realize how much I want to play hockey, how much I miss it. At the end of the day, I’ll be back stronger.” Morin said previously about his injury plagued year.

The Flyers “Jolly Green Giant” will only come back stronger from this and a roster spot will more than likely be waiting for him when he does.

However, with the expected recovery time of 4-6 months, Morin will have to work his way back into the Flyers lineup. His recovery time puts him at the very least a month or two into the season.
