So…Do We Have a Chance?

I remember sitting on the beach this past summer, constantly refreshing social media with what little service I had to check for ‘Woj Bombs’. For the first time in a long time, the Sixers were legitimate players in free agency for a number of somewhat big names. Then, the bomb went off, and JJ Redick was a Sixer. While Redick has never once been an all-star, the notoriety behind the name sent shock waves through our fanbase. With that acquisition and the Fultz trade earlier that summer, the season began with an unprecedented amount of hype.

From then until now, the Philadelphia 76ers have been an absolute roller coaster thrill ride. It’s crazy to think that not even the first Super Bowl victory in Philadelphia Eagles history could stop us from tuning in every night for every up and down moment of the first post-Process season.

We sat on our hands through every blown lead. We pulled our hands out to scratch our heads every time a video of Fultz’ broken shot popped up. We fell back on the Christmas Day win against the Knicks when we thought Nick Foles wasn’t good enough against the Raiders that same holiday. We went to work with our eyes half open after staying up late to watch Joel Embiid’s dominating performance out in Los Angeles. We felt a remarkable amount excitement when we beat the Cavaliers in the waning moments of an unreal game for a 13th straight win.

The point I’m trying to make with this trip down memory lane you may ask? I just don’t want this ride to end.

If we’ve learned anything from the Eagles this offseason is that even when you make it the distance and win a championship, things are still forced to change and your roster will always have turnover. In a league like the NBA, where seismic shifts seemingly occur every time July rolls around, it is likely the team we fell in love with this year will be totally different in a mere few months.

With the season on the line Wednesday night in an anxiety ridden affair, there is a chance that this is where it all ends. It had to end some time but at the hands of Boston is not where I expected it to. I love this team too much for it to be over yet and I want one last story to tell for the rising action of our 30 for 30 on The Process.

So, I ask you Philadelphia: is tonight the night we die or do we live to see another day? Do we follow the common route of history or do we rewrite it in the Year of Philly and become the first team to come back from a 3-0 hole? Anyone who has watched this team this year knows that just as quickly as they shoot themselves in the foot and lose 3 straight, is as quick as they can win 4 in a row.

It’s been a hell of a ride so far, and it’s just not quite time for it to end yet.
