Eagles Just Replaced Torrey Smith in the Most Howie Way Possible

According to Peter Schrager, the Eagles have agreed to a 1 year contract with Mike Wallace.

Wallace, who had has best years with the Steelers, is coming off an pass dropping plagued season with the Ravens.

Last season with the Ravens, Wallace caught 52 passes for 748 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was targeted 92 times last night. However, he had a team high in drops with 29.

Wallace is seen a replacement for ex-Eagles wide receiver Torrey Smith.

The contract is worth $2.5M plus incentives. Fits perfectly right in under the Eagles tight salary cap.

This move is such a Howie way of doing business: low cap hit, short contract terms, high on incentives. Plenty of motivation for the player with little risk to the team if it doesn’t pan out.

Last year, similar deals were offered to veterans like Legarette Blount and Torrey Smith, whom Wallace will likely be replacing.

Deals like these, Mike Wallace and the acquisition of Michael Bennett, are awesome. But bringing in these proven veterans on the low-low is what rounds this team out.
